If you have suffered an accident or injury at work then you must follow the following steps, if you want to recover full compensation for your work injury.

  1. You must report your work injury. You should report your work injury within 90 days of when you knew or should have known you are injured at work. For example - If you go to your family doctor with an injury that you might think work related and your doctor confirm that it is work related then you must immediately notify your employer about your injury.
  2. If you are injured, then you must go to the doctor, if you have any medical problem and you don't go to a doctor, then there will be no evidence that you have in fact sustained an injury. So if you have been hurt or having pain or problem, that you believe associated with your work, then you need to go to a doctor.
  3. Tell your doctor everything that hurts; do not underestimate your injury. Perhaps you are having, for example- pain and numbness in your hand, but also having pain in your shoulder and neck. While the hand may be the focus of your examination, make sure to write down in the form and tell the doctor or nurse all about your problem related to your work injury. You should always keep in mind that if you tell your doctor or other medical provider, including you physiotherapist that you are fine, that you are doing all right, then they will write that in your report. So, if you tell them that you are fine then make sure that you are fine or you are no longer having any pain or that can create a problem in your case later on, if you say that you are having problem.
  4. You need to follow up with your doctor, physiotherapist and other medical bodies. Failure to do so is considered as evidence in your fully recovered to your insurance company, the defence solicitor and perhaps eventually the judge to sign your case. While you do not need to visit your doctor daily, you do need to do what your doctor tells you to do and tell them if you are still having any problem. If you do not follow up, then in the eyes of the doctor, the insurance company, the solicitor and perhaps even the judge that you have made a full recovery from you injuries.

Always remember that you should always hire a good work injury solicitor to fight your case, as they have the experience to deal with your case more effectively. There are lots of law firms in UK who work on a no win no fee basis. Which means that, you don't need to pay your solicitor any fee, whatever be the outcome of your case. If you win the case then the solicitors will recover his payment from the third party and if you lose the case then he won't get any money.
